What culinary school is more highly valued?

Sunday 11 January 2009

If I went to the culinary institute in baltimore, in London at the Cordon Bleu, or the Cordon Bleu in France…which place would resturants or other jobs value more??
I would most like to go to the one in London.
I would like Chefs to answer my question-not some person who skims the internet looking for answers just to get more points-okay?
Also what style of cooking does the Cordon Bleu teach?-is it diverse>?
Thank you!!

Cordon Bleu in France is supposedly the creme de la creme so to speak! The UK one is a branch and also very good.

In the US, it's the CIA in Hyde Park, NY.

PS: my cousin's at the CIA in NY, he did alot of research before applying. I also dont really need any points!

Foods,Cooking, and College?

Friday 9 January 2009

Is it better to go to college to become a sous chef, an school of art institutes, or a commuinty college?
I heard that is not worth going to the best school for their prices.

it all depends what kind of college you want to go to but you might want to some research on schools in canada and the united states because some schools are cheaper on books then other colleges like nait. Here are some sites that might help http://www.nait.ca/program_home_19735.htm amd and http://www.cookingschools101.com/find-a-school.aspx and you can look at each city in the united states..
Hope this will help

I've never seen a certificate cooking course anywhere that was less than two years.

You can start with Chef 2 Chef's list of schools. Contact the schools directly to get information on their certification programs, then decide which approaches your desired goal the closest.

Cooking School?

Saturday 3 January 2009

I'm looking at the Le Cordon Bleu culinary institute in mendota heights mn. does anyone know how much it costs to go there, how long it takes? if you went there how did you like it?

Its not cheap. I went to AI in Minneapolis. Im glad I did. I really liked my instructors. We had great class sizes, all fairly small. My largest class was my baking class with 20 students, smallest was Garde Manger with 8. Can get a BA or AAS. Within walking distance from the light rail or bus stops. Plus, very few of the graduates from Le Cordon Bleu that I have met actually have a clue as to what they are doing in the kitchen. Of course, with any education you get out of it what you put into it. But there has to be a reason behind the negative reputation of that particular school.
