Culinary Arts schools In Sacremento area?

Tuesday 13 January 2009

Ok, so I'm looking to go back to College. I'm going to be studying Culinary Arts. I am needing everyone's opinion though on which one is the better school though in the Sacremento Area.

The Institute of Art, Kitchen Accademy or The Institute of Technology. All are in the Sacremento area……

So what are your thoughts on theese schools…(I'm hoping that some alum and current students especially can give me thoughts on theese schools).

I really think its up to you… You can always call and compare them.. I think that's the best way to do it. No matter who you pick, It'll be the best and I'll still be by your side..

Don’t know what school is better for culinary arts? Art Institute or Le Cordon Bleu?

I live in Las Vegas and want to go to a culinary school here in vegas…which one would you recommend? I went to AI yesterday and it seemed like a great one on one school plus I plan to do the Bachelors of Science program. But I have read all the other things about AI and I don’t know whether I’m making the right decision.

You can easily compare these schools here – findcollege.hotusa.org
It has info about them, tips to apply and students feedback – so you can compare and choose the best one for you.

What should I be looking for in a Culinary School?

Friday 9 January 2009

I am looking at a couple culinary schools right now. The New England Culinary Institute which is rated as one of the best in the country, The Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Arizona, and the Art Institute of San Diego. Right now I live in Massachussetts but my dream is to work in San Diego. The best school is probably the one in New England but it is all the way up in Vermont. I guess what I want to know is, is there really that much of a difference between schools?

Yes, there are some which are more known for creating hobby cooks and others which have a better reputation in the culinary world. As with any university or post-secondary school, some schools have national reputations, while others are only regionally recognized. There are also some which are better-respected in other regions of the country (where people assume that if they have heard of it, it must be good) than they are in their own. In each case, I would find out where their graduates have gone. I would want to know about intern/externships, since many restaurants really only respect on-the-job training (even if they will hire someone with credentials). Find out about the credentials of the instructors; some schools offer very classical French training, while others are shifting more to other forms of cuisine, and that might make a difference in the range of retaurants for which you would be qualified. You also need to think of your education as the first step in networking in the culinary world (assuming you haven't had a lot of experience in it); who your instructors and fellow students are might make a difference in your ability to fit into the industry in the long run.

which culinary school is better california culinary academy, the art institute or the kitchen academy?

Monday 5 January 2009

They are in Los Angeles and i am not trying to go very far.

I'm a graduate of the California Culinary Academy. And no, it's not in Los Angeles. It's in San Francisco. I do not recommend this school to anyone. They seem more interested in collecting tuition money than actually teaching.

Housing is located in the Tenderloin – a drug and homeless infested area of San Francisco. I've seen shoot-outs, crack head smoking up at the bus stop right outside the front door, people droping the pants to use the bathroom where ever they please, and cops shake down drug dealers for their drugs.

The food that's served to the students is horrible. They don't practice any of the food handling you learn about in the safety and sanitation course. Cold things aren't kept cold, hot things are kept hot. There was a food-illness outbreak that got 40 people sick.

I've had a chef instructor insult me and the rest of the class on the first day. A friend of mine had a butchery chef who liked to throw raw chicken at students when he got upset.

The only way to fail your classes is to not show up. I got an A in a class that I honestly should have recieved a C. That same instructor and five others, including the Master Chef, were fired for cheating on an ethics test.

I think you can find a better way to spend 50 Grand.

I don't recommend The Kitchen Academy either. They were a little too small for me. Certification is only available.

Out of the three schools you have listed, I would look into The Art Institute.

Good luck with that.

Tell me about art institute of vancouver's culinary program?

Saturday 3 January 2009

I'm applying for July intake in Ai Vancouver's culinary program.
Lately I've heard some bad things about the school. Could you please share what do you think about it?

I have heard nothing but the best about the Dubrelle Culinary School in Vancouver. They always have great write ups in the newspapers and magazines. They are also internationally reknown. If you had heard any negative commentry I bet you it was from a student who wasn't doing well in class!
