HELP ON COOKING/CULINARY SCHOOL.?

Sunday 11 January 2009

I am in desperate need of finding a Culinary or Cooking School that teaches How to make different "KAKANIN" like Kutchinta and Pichi-Pichi. The preferred location is around Metro Manila only and the preferred duration of the course is for a week or less than.

Thanks.

due to the short length and location you would be better off finding someplace that serves the food you desire to learn and pay them to do a one on one to teach you!!!

Do you know if culinary schools gather any info on their graduates starting salaries?

Friday 9 January 2009

I just saw the government info for "restaurant cook" salaries and it's scaring me a little, but there's no distinction made between cooks with culinary school educations and without, or between people who work at common chain restaurants and people who work at "fancier" restaurants. Do respected culinary schools, like FCI or CIA, usually have any information about typical starting salaries? Would I be able to get this information at the schools job placement center or something?
Thanks Nicole, I'll take a look, but I've looked closely around the sites before and I haven't seen this info. Usually the alumni page of any school or college only shows famous alumni, and positive reviews of the school who say things like "I love my job!" and "I make 100,000 a year." There was a salary page at every school I looked into, but they all just list goverment averages for the "Chef" job categories, which according to the government only includes cooks who actually supervise an entire kitchen. Do they even collect average salary info?

Read Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. I bet you can get some idea what it takes to survive and thrive in the world of good cooking. Cooking schools sell degrees, not jobs.
Really, don't depend on anyone to pay you. Plan on opening up your own shop as soon as possible.
